Empowering Southern Africa (ESA) project is a USAID-financed project designed to support expansion of electricity access as well as to support power supply and transmission growth in the 11 countries of the Southern Africa region: Angola, Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe. NRECA International is part of a multi-member consortium that has been contracted to implement the ESA project. The Off-Grid Electrification Specialist (Specialist) will be the primary NRECA International representative on the ESA team and will be responsible for implementation of day-to-day activities in the primary project offices in Pretoria, South Africa.&lt;br /&gt;

About the role&lt;br /&gt;
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Identifies off-grid electrification expansion opportunities in ESA target countries in collaboration with other ESA implementing partners.&lt;br /&gt;
Leads efforts to achieve transaction closure in support of ESA’s off-grid targets, including 1.5 million connections; 35,000 PUE units; 1,000 mini-grids; and associated investment and GHG reduction targets.&lt;br /&gt;
Identifies, evaluates and seeks solutions to improve enabling environment and financing conditions to support investments in mini-grid expansion in selected countries.&lt;br /&gt;
Coordinates with ESA counterparts in each respective country to identify key off-grid electrification expansion opportunities and to design programs to support investments responsive to these opportunities.&lt;br /&gt;
Coordinates with other NRECA personnel who will contribute to ESA activities in grid electrification expansion and who may provide direct support to the Off-Grid Electrification Specialist to support ESA objectives and activities.&lt;br /&gt;
Coordinates with ESA colleagues to support productive uses of energy initiatives on the ESA program.&lt;br /&gt;
Identifies new initiatives within the ESA project umbrella and other, non-ESA activities to expand NRECA services in Sub-Saharan Africa.&lt;br /&gt;
