2nd Powering Agriculture Call for Innovation

The 2nd Powering Agriculture Call for Innovation has been released. The call will be open for applications from December 8, 2014 until February 13, 2015. The application form can be found here starting December 8.


Background

The international initiative Powering Agriculture – An Energy Grand Challenge (PAEGC) – partners are USAID, SIDA, BMZ, OPIC and Duke Energy – is tendering this call. PAEGC is seeking to fund innovative technologies and business models at the intersection of clean energy and agriculture in developing countries.


Objective of the Call

Against the backdrop of a growing world population and, hence, a rising demand for food, the call aims at supporting organizations and companies with innovative solutions at the interface of agriculture and energy in order to develop and promote energy smart solutions for a resource-efficient and sustainable food production. Applicants from a wide range of U.S. and non-U.S organizations and institutions are encouraged to respond including academic institutions, not-for-profit and for-profit organizations, foundations, civic groups, and cooperatives.


Details of the Global Innovation Call

PAGEC’s second Global Innovation Call will issue individual awards ranging from $500,000 to $2,000,000 USD for Clean Energy Solutions that are

  1. at the early stages of research and design; and
  2. (at the later stage of product/business model development to assist with expansion to commercial scale and/or replication of successfully piloted solutions elsewhere.

Who is eligible?

Applicants from a wide range of U.S. and non-U.S organizations and institutions are encouraged to respond including academic institutions, not-for-profit and for-profit organizations, foundations, civic groups, and cooperatives.

How to apply?

The Broad Agency Announcement (BAA) solicitation for PAEGC’s second Global Innovation Call is administered by USAID on behalf of the Founding Partners and can be downloaded from http://www.grants.gov and http://www.fbo.gov .

Applications shall be received from Monday, December 8, 2014 to Thursday, February 12, 2015 at 4:00 PM EST via the Online Application Platform accessed at:http://poweringag.org/call-innovations.

Prospective Applicants who have questions concerning the contents of the BAA shall submit them in in English before Monday, December 1, 2014 at 4:00 PM EST to the following e-mail address: poweringag@usaid.gov.

Further Information

Verbal explanations or instructions given before the issuance of an Award will not be binding. Any information given to a prospective Applicant concerning this BAA will be furnished promptly to all other prospective Applicants as an amendment to the BAA, if that information is necessary in submitting proposals or if the lack of it would be prejudicial to any other prospective Applicant.

The 11 winners of the call 2013 received approx. 1 Mio USD each for boosting their respective project at the interface of agriculture and energy.
