Finalists

The 2nd Powering Agriculture Call for Innovation has announced the finalists.

The call received 871 applications for its second Global Innovation Call. The Founding Partners are pleased to announce that 21 out of the 106 semifinalists have been selected to advance to the Stage 3: Innovator Evaluation Board (IEB) interviews.

The Founding Partners congratulate this dynamic and innovative group of organizations that are helping to accelerate the development and deployment of clean energy solutions that will enhance agricultural yields/productivity, decrease post-harvest loss, improve farmer and agribusiness income generating opportunities and revenues, and/or increase energy efficiency and associated savings within the operations of farms and agribusinesses all while stimulating low carbon economic growth within the agriculture sector of developing countries.

These finalists seek to implement groundbreaking technologies and business models within the energy/agriculture nexus for emerging markets and developing countries where many farmers and agribusinesses lack access to reliable, affordable and clean energy services.

Background

The international initiative Powering Agriculture – An Energy Grand Challenge (PAEGC) – partners are USAID, SIDA, BMZ, OPIC and Duke Energy – has been tendering this call. PAEGC is seeking to fund innovative technologies and business models at the intersection of clean energy and agriculture in developing countries.


Objective of the Global Innovation Call

Against the backdrop of a growing world population and, hence, a rising demand for food, the call aims at supporting organizations and companies with innovative solutions at the interface of agriculture and energy in order to develop and promote energy smart solutions for a resource-efficient and sustainable food production. Applicants from a wide range of U.S. and non-U.S organizations and institutions are encouraged to respond including academic institutions, not-for-profit and for-profit organizations, foundations, civic groups, and cooperatives.


Details of the Global Innovation Call

PAGEC’s second Global Innovation Call will issue individual awards ranging from $500,000 to $2,000,000 USD for Clean Energy Solutions that are

  1. at the early stages of research and design; and
  2. (at the later stage of product/business model development to assist with expansion to commercial scale and/or replication of successfully piloted solutions elsewhere.

Any information given to a prospective Applicant concerning this BAA will be furnished promptly to all other prospective Applicants as an amendment to the BAA, if that information is necessary in submitting proposals or if the lack of it would be prejudicial to any other prospective Applicant.
