WISIONS was founded in 2004 by Wuppertal Institute – a think tank and sustainability research institute based in Wuppertal, Germany.

Our mission is to empower individuals and communities in the Global South to transform the production and use of energy so that it effectively enables sustainable development.

Over the last 15 years, we have supported communities and local energy practitioners through projects, knowledge exchanges, networks, research and advocacy.

Key Activities
• WISIONS’ transformative research, impact evaluation and evidence-based advocacy.

• WISIONS’ scheme SEPS (Sustainable Energy Project Support) nurtures innovative sustainable energy projects and fosters knowledge exchanges between practitioners. As of February 2019, SEPS has supported around 130 projects and exchange activities across the world.

• WISIONS cooperates with and supports four practitioner networks to facilitate knowledge development and sharing and to induce the broader dissemination of sustainable energy:

o RedBioLAC (Latin America and the Caribbean) and RedBioCol (Colombia), on biogas.

o HPNET - HydroEmpowerement Network, on community micro-hydro in South and Southeast Asia.

o WindEmpowerement, on small-scale wind.
