El presente módulo explica las funciones que cumplen las aberturas, ventanas y puertas, además, la estrecha relación que guardan con la eficiencia energética de un edificio. El buen diseño del control solar de un edificio permite, en el caso de climas calientes, reducir las ganancias solares, y en consecuencia, reducir la demanda de energía para climatizar, mediante equipos de aire acondicionado.
