Job description
The Goal of the Agriculture Sector at SNV is “More Inclusive, sustainable and resilient food systems which provide diverse nutritious food for all within planetary boundaries”. In order to achieve this, SNV has chosen to work in four thematic areas, which we call products: ‘Inclusive Value Chains’, ‘Sustainable Nutrition for All’, ‘Climate and Business’ and ‘Opportunities for Youth Employment’ and currently implements nearly 200 agriculture projects, with a portfolio value well over €600 Million. Knowledge development and management and learning across SNV’s agriculture sector and between projects is a key element in ensuring premium quality interventions and results and requires specific attention in a project-financed organisation.

In SNV’s Agriculture Sector Strategic Plan for 2019-2022, there is a recognition that SNV has traditionally been good at knowledge development but less successful in knowledge management: adoption, sharing and review & revision. In the current strategic period we aim to give explicit attention to the latter, requiring a shift in the way that the global Agriculture Team works. Significant progress has been made to improve the definition and descriptions of our four products and it is now imperative that dedicated staff time and energy is invested on the internalisation and adoption of the products, tools and approaches within the Country teams in order to ensure increased consistency and maximum quality of implementation across projects and geographies. Equally important is a focus on evidencing how our products work together to create sustainable and systemic change across the sector and not solely at the product level. This also ties directly into an increased focus on external Communications to advocate for our approaches and to influence policy in order to create impact at scale (“systems change”). We intend to strengthen our “knowhow architecture” in order to support this external work.

In order to achieve these goals, SNV is now seeking a dynamic and pragmatic professional to provide leadership and technical advice on Knowledge Management and Learning as part of the Global Agriculture Team. As KM&L Advisor you will work under the direct supervision of the Global Head of Agriculture and closely with the Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation Advisors, the Corporate Affairs Unit, a Systems Change Advisor currently being recruited, and with the Leads of the four SNV products (Inclusive Value Chains, Climate and Business, Sustainable Nutrition for All and Opportunities for Youth Employment) and Global Technical Advisors. The key target group is country Agriculture Sector Leaders and Project Managers, as well as the external audience of donors, private sector actors and other relevant stakeholders.

In addition to providing leadership and technical advice at the global level, you will provide technical advisory support to projects, deliver capacity strengthening on the tools and approaches you develop and provide expert KM&L guidance to global agriculture staff at the strategic level.
