Eligibility/Description
The COVID-19 pandemic threatens to set development and energy access efforts back years – if not decades – in the world’s most vulnerable areas and countries. The outbreak of the pandemic has highlighted the importance of energy access to help control the spread of the virus and to protect vulnerable groups. At the same time, lockdown measures challenge local community and their service providers to keep up operations. The economic downturn particularly threatens locally-owned enterprises’ existence and their ability to continue providing essential services. This requires action. Shine is creating a COVID-19 Recovery Fund Grant to sustain energy access initiatives that are locally-rooted, women-led, managed and/or directed by local communities. It is critical to safeguard these enterprises and encourage local initiatives that create demand for these enterprises’ services.
