Abstract
Solar asset managers in Mexico are facing a growing need for battery storage, either as a way of cutting commercial and industrial electricity supply costs or to overcome congestion in the transmission and distribution system. While batteries may already make financial sense for C&I-scale customers, the case is still challenging for utility-scale solar plus storage given the regulatory vacuum for storage within the wholesale market. The prospects for significant utility-scale solar plus storage market growth in Mexico depend on such regulation. This white paper delves into the different opportunities for solar plus storage under current market conditions while unraveling the challenges that keep solar plus storage from becoming a solution to the weakened grid infrastructure.
