The Role of Microfinance in Energy Access Changing Roles, Changing Paradigms and Future Potential

Presenter: Sebastian Groh and Hardley Taylor

Presentation

This paper provides a concise theoretical overview of projects linking microfinance and energy access and tracks both sectors for signals of a transition process where roles and paradigms appear to be changing from both sides of the equation; a shift away from solar home systems to both smaller portable systems as well as more elaborate service offers through different mini-grid schemes from both international donors, as well as the demands of the end- users themselves. The paper concludes with an estimation of future potential, and microfinance’s dynamic role in addressing energy poverty The Role of Microfinance in Energy Access Changing Roles, Changing Paradigms and Future Potential.pdf
