| The off-grid lighting and electrification industry has experienced rapid market growth in the last years and provided millions of households living beyond the electrical grid with life transforming access to energy. Despite the industry’s efforts and success, 1.2 billion people still lack basic access to energy. The Global Off-Grid Lighting Association (GOGLA) acts as the industry advocate supporting the industry in growing and strengthening the market for clean, quality off-grid lighting and electrical systems. With its advocacy and communication work, GOGLA seeks to realize international recognition for the benefits of off-grid lighting and sector-wide industry support.
To maintain and strengthen its role as the voice of the industry, GOGLA now seeks to appoint a Data Analyst (new function).

The ability to provide detailed, robust and up-to-date information on the off-grid solar market is essential for GOGLA’s relevance for its members and stakeholders. The Data Analyst will reinforce GOGLA’s current capacities through the provision of high quality data collection, analysis and reporting services to the GOGLA team and to key market stakeholders.
Depending on experience and performance, there is the opportunity for the selected candidate to become the central person in the team who coordinates continued delivery of currently established market information roles, and builds on this to expand GOGLA’s presence as a key data provider to market stakeholders. GOGLA’s data portfolio is continuously expanding, and there is significant room for growth in this position for a driven, ambitious data professional.
Responsibilities of the Data Analyst:
1. Working closely with the Program Manager Access to Finance (acting as project leader), you will be responsible for implementing the half-yearly rounds of sales and impact data collection and production of half-yearly public and individual market data reports. This activity is done jointly with IFC Lighting Global, Berenschot Management Consultants, and Getting Social web developers, with a growing role for GOGLA in every round.
Your specific tasks and responsibilities include:
Coordination of reporting request to industry members
Continuous improvement of the data collection process, ensuring that participation by industry members is as smooth and easy for them as possible
Quantitative analysis and quality control of data received, and processing data (using Excel and potentially Python) into various reporting outputs
Collection of feedback on improvement needs for the data collection process and the resource platform, advisory on technical improvements, and delivery of improvements over time
Serving as contact point for GOGLA partners for questions on GOGLA’s result platform, access to market data and data sharing
2. Contribute quantitative expertise and project implementation capacity to various other GOGLA data and knowledge projects, including ongoing projects on collecting evidence of social impact through customer databases of GOGLA member companies; on improving insights into investment into the sector; and mapping of existing sector activities and facilitators. You will, among others, provide expertise on smart use of technology in data management and data sharing system, ensuring systems are robust and can be sustained within GOGLA’s capacities.
Additional ad-hoc responsibilities include:
Contribute content for GOGLA advocacy and communication messages
Respond to queries for subsets of data and/or customized analysis
Ensure that key data resources are available on GOGLA’s website in an easily accessible way
The Data Analyst will formally report to the Executive Director. The position may require incidental travel (significant travel is not foreseen).
A high level of passion for GOGLA’s mission and objective
A minimum of one year of relevant experience in the field of data and knowledge management (longer experience, potentially in broader range of fields, would be advantageous)
Familiarity with modern database and information system technologies:
o Advanced Excel skills are required (pivot tables, macros, VBA)
o Ability to use Python is advantageous
A good eye for details and a drive for perfection
An analytical mindset and good problem-solving skills
Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work independently in a small team; willingness to roll up your sleeves and go the extra mile to achieve results
Academic degree in a relevant field of study
Excellent skills in English; command of other languages is considered an asset
