The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Summit 2023 will take place this coming September at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, representing a mid-term point in SDG implementation.
This 90-minute webinar is the sixth in Stakeholder Forum's ‘Countdown to the UN SDG Summit 2023’ series of 8 webinars in the run-up to the September 2023 SDG Summit. SF's review of two SDGs each month commenced in November 2022 and will run until the UN HLPF in July 2023.
We know we are lagging behind. We know the obstacles. We urgently need evidence-based policies and transformative actions and solutions to better address the environmental component of sustainable development and accelerate the implementation of the SDGs.
With a focus on SDGs 11 and 12 – Sustainable Cities & Communities and Responsible Consumption, & Production - including their synergies and tradeoffs with other goals - our fifth webinar will continue to explore different ways to enable integrated approaches to SDG implementation, with a special focus on mechanisms to strengthen the environmental dimension of sustainable development through the contribution of stakeholders in the lead-up to the 2023 SDG Summit.
By engaging in conversations with renowned experts in these areas, we aim to deepen and update knowledge, reveal gaps, propose solutions, examine interdependencies across the Global Goals, inspire accelerating actions and implementations, and challenge the SDG Summit in September 2023 to do likewise. It is also our intention to establish communities of practice in the lead-up to the 2023 SDG Summit and to continue that work beyond.
The event will be hosted by Stakeholder Forum's Chairman, Charles Nouhan, and moderated by David O’Connor, Permanent Representative of the International Union for Conservation of Nature to the United Nations and a Fellow at SF, in dialogue with a host of SDG and sustainability experts. SF's Executive Director Irena Zubcevic will close with a summation.
