How are communities in informal settlements using nature to tackle climate challenges like flooding, heat, or water scarcity? As part of IIED’s Climate Action for Equitable Cities initiative, we’re documenting community-led nature-based solutions (NbS) that are already shaping more resilient, inclusive urban futures. We’re looking for short examples from community-based organisations, grassroots networks, NGOs and researchers showing how nature is being used to address climate risks: e.g., to cool cities, manage floods, address water scarcity or create healthier neighbourhoods.
We’re especially interested in examples from Kenya, Sierra Leone, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Ecuador, and Honduras (including cities such as Nairobi, Mombasa, Freetown, Dhaka, Phnom Penh, Quito, and Tegucigalpa) — but all are welcome.
Selected case studies will be featured in an IIED working paper and shared through our website and social media, helping spotlight community innovation and influence urban policy and practice.
Please share your examples by 30 November 2025 using this short form: https://forms.office.com/e/AsBvAW5k0V
