Description
Join us for A Conversation on Clean Cooking, Women, and Trade to mark the International Day of Rural Women on 15 October 2021 from 8:00-9:00am EST. The virtual event, co-hosted by the Clean Cooking Alliance (CCA) and the World Trade Organization (WTO), will feature a panel of high-level experts, including WTO Deputy Director General, Jean-Marie Paugam, and moderated by CCA CEO, Dymphna van der Lans. The Conversation will focus on the critical role of women in accelerating progress towards achieving universal access to clean cooking and the importance of engaging the trade community in establishing an inclusive, enabling environment to support a robust and sustainable clean cooking industry. Providing clean energy to households is critical to achieving global climate and sustainable development goals. Yet we’re unacceptably off-track to reach our 2030 goal of universal access to clean cooking. Today, 2.6 billion people lack access to clean cooking solutions, costing the world more than $2.4 trillion in damage to the climate and local economies and contributing to more than 4 million premature deaths each year. Women bear a disproportionate share of this cost in the form of poor health and safety, as well as lost productivity and well-being. This event will kick off CCA’s Week of Clean Cooking, a series of virtual engagements, events, and networking opportunities to engage everyone in the clean cooking ecosystem and catalyze action.
