The objective of the project funded by Department of Transport (DOT) is to conduct a pilot Conceptual Model that can be used in conducting vulnerability and risk assessments of infrastructure to the projected impacts of global climate change (GCC). The purpose of the pilots was twofolds; 1) to assist State DOTs to quickly advance existing adaptation assessment activities and 2) to assist Fedral Highway Administration (FHWA) in "test-driving" the model. A Stronger, More Resilient New York is the report released by the Special Initiative for Rebuilding and Resiliency (SIRR), created following Hurricane Sandy to analyze the impacts of the storm on the city’s infrastructure and people; assess the risk that the city faces in the medium (2020s) and long (2050s) term, and build a plan to increase resiliency across all sectors. It presents background and concrete initiatives across sectors, including coastal protection, utilities, healthcare, and transportation, among others. The report provides an example of a large, global, coastal city preparing for the uncertainty of climate change. |
