- Promotion of environmentally sustainable and climate-resilient grid-based hydropower through an integrated approach in Sao Tome and Principe" project:- This project launched by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in collaboration with the Government of Sao Tome, on March 2016, will focus on promoting renewable energy; particularly on reducing the financial burden on the Government and sustainable energy transition.
The program will last 5 years and during this time, the small hydropower plants are expected to generate 365,000 MWh of electricity and avoid 874,200 tons of C02. As a first step, actions are already being taken to overcome the existing barriers to the development of off-grid and grid-connected small hydropower plants.[1]
