Welcome to Energy Efficient Building Refurbishment in Mongolia

The GIZ project "Energy Efficient Building Refurbishment in Mongolia" (EEP) works with the Municipality of Ulaanbaatar (MUB) and other stakeholders on public investment management and energy efficiency in the building sector.

About EEP

Mongolia has joined the Paris Climate Agreement and pledged to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions. The energy sector, especially the construction and housing sectors, can play a significant role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Therefore, it is very important to make buildings as environmentally friendly and green as possible.

The GIZ project Energy Efficient Building Refurbishment in Mongolia (EEP) has worked with the Municipality of Ulaanbaatar (MUB) and other stakeholders on public investment management and energy efficiency in the building sector. The project was co-financed by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and had a duration from 2019-2021.

GIZ has worked for almost 30 years in the energy sector in Mongolia and since 2018 on energy efficiency in the building sector. During this time many experiences have been made and knowledge was acquired. GIZ managed to start pilot projects, changed regulations and positively impacted the lives of many in Mongolia. Now, at the end of the current energy efficiency project (EEP), it is time to look at the achievements and lessons learned and share them with the global energy community with the hope that others can learn and benefit from our experiences in Mongolia.
