Fuel Pricing Policies

Local Currency: AED
Exchange Rate: 3.67

(2010/11/10)

Last Update:

Prices are set in discussions between the government and the state owned retail companies and are changed in an ad hoc manner. According to a state oil company official there are plans to eventually liberalise the market with an intermediate step where prices should be reviewed periodically every three month by a pricing committee. By the UAE government’s definition of subsidies, diesel is no longer subsidized.

The price for Diesel varies across regions (northern Emirates cheaper than in the southern ones). Price differential led to long tanking queues in 2008.

UAE has to import refined fuel products because they have too few refineries. They already have the highest fuel prices among all GCC countries with two prices increases already this year.
