Background

In Februari 2015, GIZ through EnDev Indonesia signed a memorandum of understanding to cooperate with Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) and an NGO, Destructive Fishing Watch (DFW) in the field of strengthening community participation in photovoltaic mini-grids in the inhabited island that are located on the front border of Indonesia.

The GIZ scope of support includes leveraging community facilitator competences who were assigned by the KKP to assist the development of PV mini-grids in the 25 outer-islands. The PV mini-grid facilities were constructed under the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (KESDM) initiative to boost the electrification program in the rural area. The community facilitators were assigned to the community to assist them in utilising their new electricity connection sustainably.

GIZ focuses comprise of :

  • Training the facilitators about management and maintenance of PV mini-grids
  • Training the facilitators about business capacity development for the community
  • Close assistance for facilitators in three islands: Larat (Maluku province) , Kawaluso and Matutuang (Sulawesi Utara province)

The output of this cooperation are materialised in this book, and a video. The English version of the book will be uploaded soon after translation work.
