Abstract
To implement the UN’s 2030 Agenda and ensure economic and social prosperity for all within planetary boundaries, while mitigating the worst impacts of climate change, we need to unleash the full transformational potential of renewable energy. Rapid- and large-scale deployment of 100% renewable energy is therefore a must.

The World Future Council and Brot für die Welt created projects to develop long-term renewable energy strategies for the Global South (Tanzania, Bangladesh, Costa Rica). This work will guide policy makers to achieve rapid large-scale deployment, enhance NDC ambition and implement the Sustainable Development Goals.

This publication guides readers how to establish engaging, multi-actor partnerships and analyses the lessons learned from developing 100% RE scenarios. It also outlines how to establish country-driven and civil-society-led processes and policy implementation. Well-designed frameworks for 100% RE can help to achieve the Paris climate targets, support implementation of Agenda 2030 and guide policy making over the crucial years. As such, long-term 100% RE strategies are an obligation rather than an option for countries that have signed both agreements.
