Description
Biogas, produced through anaerobic digestion of organic matter, can provide flexible modern bioenergy services. It can represent a more sustainable alternative to traditional biomass use or fossil fuels. Anaerobic digestion is an established technology but its uptake in some developing countries has been slow. It is necessary to understand the main factors that affect the success of biogas in order for policies and projects to be developed to deliver sustainable renewable energy.
In 2020, GBEP released a report entitled “Stocktaking paper – regional analysis of biogas value chains”. It was the result of three years of research by the GBEP Secretariat along with GBEP Partners and Observers during the GBEP Bioenergy Weeks (Ghana in 2017, Argentina in 2018 and Philippines in 2019). This webinar presents some of the key findings of this research, as well as looking at how this type of research can be beneficial at the national scale, through the presentation of a study conducted by LEDSLAC and LEDS GP´s Energy Working Group in Colombia. The discussion session will consider how the findings from these studies can be used to promote sustainable biogas with supporting policies and financing mechanisms.
The webinar is hosted by the Global Bioenergy Partnership (GBEP) as part of the Scope of Work of Activity Group 7, under the thematic area of ‘Biogas’. More information and other webinars on this theme can be found on the GBEP website.
