Position Summary

Project Drawdown is building a “dream team” of leading experts to conduct top-quality research and provide world-leading insights on climate solutions and strategies. As part of this team, we are hiring a Senior / Associate Scientist (the title will depend on the level of previous work experience) focused on the intersection of equity and climate solutions. This is a full-time, ongoing staff position.

We seek candidates who use quantitative methods to explore the intersection of equity, human wellbeing, and climate solutions. Candidates who focus on possible solutions that can mitigate climate change, improve human wellbeing, and center equity are of particular interest. Topics of interest include (but are not limited to) how climate solutions can improve equity and human wellbeing through improving aspects of public health; food, water, and energy security; income, work, and poverty; education; and gender equality.

We are looking for an expert with high-level training (with a Ph.D., postdoctoral work, and at least 5-10 years of full-time research experience) in quantitative social science, environmental law, physical science, biological science, public health, medicine, or engineering. Relevant disciplines include (but are not limited to) applied economics, geography, demography, public health, and epidemiology.

Candidates must also be experienced in conducting and managing high-level cross-disciplinary scientific research, publishing their methods and results in top journals in international peer-reviewed literature, presenting original results at key scientific conferences, and communicating the impact of their results in oral and written formats. In addition, we seek candidates who are highly proficient in scientific research tools, and can help lead technical innovations in data science, geospatial analysis, and computer simulation modeling. We especially seek candidates with proven abilities of working collaboratively, effectively, and efficiently in ways that prioritize and center empathy and equity. The ideal candidate will also have considerable experience writing successful research proposals to funding agencies.

Successful candidates will have a body of high-quality scholarly work that is comparable to scholars nominated for tenure at a major research university.

Working with others in the Project Drawdown science team and other Project Drawdown programs, this individual will lead and collaborate on original research, be a subject matter expert inside and outside the organization and provide the world with leading insights and analysis on climate equity. We seek candidates who are good collaborators, deeply value partnerships, and thrive in a team setting. The science team is currently being formed and will embody a culture of excellence and integrity, collaboration, transparency, mentoring, and clear communication. We especially welcome individuals with professional experience outside the US, particularly in low- and middle-income countries to apply.

Project Drawdown values the way each member of our team enriches our diversity by adding perspectives brought about by different backgrounds and experiences and believes that this is essential to making sure the world reaches drawdown safely, quickly, equitably, and justly. We are a 100% remote organization based in the U.S. Candidates currently authorized to work in the United States (U.S. citizens, green card holders, and work visa holders), who reside anywhere within the U.S. may apply.
