About the Role

We are looking for someone with an unshakeable belief that we can achieve greater impact by working together; who can facilitate diverse groups from within and beyond the energy, climate and finance sectors; and who can manage complex, dynamic relationships sensitively, leading from behind to support the coalition to attract new members, partners and allies.

Are you innovative and entrepreneurial? A critical and reflective thinker, with a “can do” attitude to seize daily new campaign opportunities? Can you plan for the long-term power, success, and sustainability of the coalition to achieve its objectives?

You will need a minimum three years’ experience in policy, advocacy and influencing in energy, climate, development and/or finance in Kenya and demonstrable understanding of synergies and conflicts across sectors, and with first hand knowledge and lived experience of the negative impact that lack of energy access has on people’s lives and livelihoods in East Africa.

The Co-ordinator will be responsible for the development and delivery of the Power Up coalition and campaign in Kenya, building coalition membership and engaging with stakeholders.

What you might find yourself doing

Government & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Inspire and coordinate the membership to achieve maximum impact through collaborative working to strengthen our calls for policy change, greater government action and increased financial flows to productive use renewable energy and clean cooking in the Kenyan counties.
  • Coordinate the recruitment of new coalition members and develop a strategy to engage and retain all coalition members
  • Developing campaign and communications materials and engagement with senior stakeholders, including policymakers and politicians
  • Prepare for events, and coordinate stakeholder consultations
  • Public speaking at events and conferences
  • Represent the coalition members in various events and forums

Campaign Development & Communications

  • Work with coalition members to co-create and build key campaign messages and materials
  • Plan, with coalition members, Power Up campaign events to influence and persuade stakeholders in government of the opportunities and co-benefits presented by improved policy and increased financing for productive use renewable energy and clean cooking in Kenya.
  • Develop compelling content to persuade stakeholders to engage with our campaign asks
  • Facilitate sharing of communications materials and resources with all coalition members for engagement and dissemination to relevant stakeholders in national and county government, energy, climate and finance sectors (amongst others).
  • Oversee Power Up owned communications channels, working closely with colleagues in the secretariat and coalition member organisations to manage the delivery of campaign communications activities.
  • Curate materials submitted by coalition members, collecting and cataloguing the people- and planet-centred stories which they share for use in the Power Up campaign.
  • Commission and manage third parties for creation of content, including video, photo, graphics/animations, and interactive media for use on social and other online campaign presence.
  • Build a network of trusted contractors and suppliers, briefing and managing third party freelancers and agencies, and ensuring high quality, effective, and value-for-money deliverables.

Finance & Administration

  • Work with the Power Up secretariat and steering committee members to develop, manage and monitor budgets for campaign events, activities and communications; as well as contributing to the preparation and monitoring of the overall Power Up annual budget and reporting to campaign donors.
  • Support the secretariat and steering committee with analysis, evaluation and dissemination of campaign and programme performance, and use this information to inform and improve activities, and to attract new donors and supporters.
  • Support the secretariat and steering committee to identify and engage potential campaign funders both domestically and internationally, and work with coalition members to develop compelling fundraising asks.
  • Handling the campaign budgets and financial reporting
