Under the supervision of the Director of the Climate Programme, and in close collaboration with the members of the team, the Senior Research Fellow contributes to the implementation of the Programme’s ambition and planned activities, ensures coherence of analysis and research work, conceives impact strategies, and develops new activities. Key responsibilities will be:

  • Design, implement and evaluate impact strategies in line with IDDRI’s strategic orientations: propose impact objectives, develop an intervention strategy identifying the necessary activities to reach the identified targets, implement the activities and regularly contribute to re-evaluating the relevance of the impact objectives.
  • Contribute to the programme’s and IDDRI’s intellectual production: define the concepts, methodologies, and resources necessary for the research work; develop networks and engage in dialogue with stakeholders (international organizations, public authorities, private companies, NGOs, etc.) and research partners; frame and facilitate workshops and stakeholders’ dialogues; write studies and policy briefs for decision-makers and, according to the intervention strategy objectives, scientific articles.
  • Successfully develop and deliver projects’ activities: effective project management to ensure timely and adequate activity execution against strategic objectives, autonomously steering, implementation and delegation of research and policy engagement activities as necessary, and engaging team’s researchers for an optimal contribution to project’s objectives. Additionally, contribution to fundraising efforts, supervising interns and supporting research officers, enhance team collaboration and information sharing within IDDRI.
  • Design and implement activities to disseminate the programme’s work: communicate positions and research findings to stakeholders, including policymakers, the public, and the media, and represent IDDRI at public conferences, in the media and in public debates.

The focus areas for the Senior Research Fellow include:

  • Strengthen delivery of NDCs and the implementation of the Paris Agreement as a basis for COP30 to deliver significant next steps towards action and justice: NDC diplomacy, bilateral diplomatic dialogues, Mission 1.5 and valorisation of COP28 Global Stocktake.
  • Support national implementation of mitigation and adaptation policies through enhanced international cooperation: Parties’ mutually beneficial solutions, policy development for intelligent and effective international collaboration, just transition and just resilience.
  • Engagement with oil and gas producing developing countries on a just, orderly, and equitable phase-out of fossil fuels, in line with 1.5ºC: research, mini-lateral dialogues, partnerships development, bridge research and policy, narrative development.

Required qualifications and contract

The successful candidate should:

  • Hold a master’s or PhD level qualification in social studies, economics of climate change and/or energy, or development studies;
  • Have at least 10 years of professional experience in think tank, academia, private sector, or government in relation to sustainable development, environmental justice, and energy and climate change issues;
  • Preferably, have practical experience with work in the Global South;
  • Have sound experience and be motivated by the management of processes involving research partners and stakeholders in an international context;
  • Be highly motivated by the prospect of creating change and applying knowledge and networking to that end;
  • Be driven by the need to make a difference in the action and justice agendas;
  • Have capacity of autonomy and be a reliable team player and to work in an international, multicultural environment
  • Have an excellent ability to review and synthesize complex information
  • Have capacity of analysis and research combining intellectual curiosity and scientific rigor
  • Have excellent communication skills both orally and in writing
  • Have good human and diplomatic skills to ensure good relations with partners
  • Have leadership to share with, engage and motivate team and partners
  • Be able to organize and prioritize one’s work and support that of others
  • Capacity to be flexible and adapt to new situations and orientations
  • Being fluent in English and working capacities in French. Having another UN language is an asset

Contract details:

  • Duration: Fixed term contract until 31/12/2026 (CDD OD in French)
  • Salary: 43-49k€ according to IDDRI HR policy (Responsable de recherche), and to qualifications and experience. 10% short-term contract bonus paid at the end of the contract
  • Location: Preferably based at Paris office (41 rue du Four, 75006 Paris)
  • Other advantages: 40 days off/year + lunch allowance (60% paid by IDDRI) + *Transit Pass (55% paid by IDDRI), homeworking flexibility
  • Beginning: as soon as possible
