Objective

Part and parcel of understanding whether investment projects are value propositions for Afghanistan is to understand their economic value. Economic value means the value that the project -a power plant, transmission lines, distribution networks- presents for Afghanistan and its people as a whole. This is different from financial analysis that just helps to understand whether a profit is to be made from an individual investment for a company such as Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS), or a private owner of a power plant. Economic analysis is therefore one of the elements of any feasibility study. The purpose of this training is introduce basic concepts of economic analysis and then try and apply it to concrete examples from Afghanistan.
