Energy Service Company (ESCO) Business Model for Photovoltaic Energy Generation in Chile

Introduction

An ESCO (Energy Service Company) is a company dedicated to the provision of energy services. It basically refers to a natural person or legal entity that delivers energy services and/or measures to contribute to the energy efficiency in the same facilities of the client. The payment of the provisioned services are paid (partly or entirely) depending on the achievement of certain energy efficiency criteria and/or performance proposed criteria.



Results

A legal and tributary analysis conducted by the consultants Arteaga Gorziglia & Cia. Abogados and Consultores Addval on ESCO business model for photovoltaic energy generation in Chile, was commissioned by the project "Solar energy for generating electricity and heat", GIZ Chile.

ESCO Business Model, 2016 (Spanish): This guide defines, under Chilean law, the ESCO Business Model, and reports the elements that affect the model in legal, accounting and tributary issues in relation to the following variables areas:

  • Relation customer/ESCO
  • Facilities
  • Energy supply
  • Price
  • Energy Surplus feed into the electricity distribution network, and
  • Contract period


Standard Contract format between a client and an ESCO for the supply of photovoltaic energy for self-generation and injection of the energy surplus into the distribution network (Spanish).
