English: Basic Energy Services in Urban Areas
In developing countries more than 2.7 billion people have difficulty or are not able to meet daily needs such as cooking, cooling, heating, and lighting. Thereby, the importance of dealing with urban energy poverty is going to extend within the next decades – in 2040 more than 50% of the poorest people are expected to live in urban areas. Poor people living in urban contexts face another supply situation than in rural areas in terms of cooking energy end electricity. This factsheet gives a brief introduction to the most important aspects regarding basic energy services in urban areas.
