Summary

Description
English: The Mexican Energy Reform has opened up the state monopoly in the electricity sector to private participants and comes with ambitious clean energy targets. In Mexico, the solar sector is still in its infancy, but the combination of an abundant solar resource, falling costs of PV technology and a favourable regulatory framework has led to high growth expectations for the sector, and significant investment opportunities. The potential growth has already started to materialize through Mexico´s first three long-term energy auctions, where solar energy has consistently outperformed other renewable technologies, and market forces have brought down prices of solar electricity to be competitive with conventional sources like combined-cycle natural gas-powered plants.
