Overview

Energy is essential for development and growth. However, an estimated 2.5 billion people worldwide depend on biomass for their daily household activities, such as cooking and heating, and approximately 1.4 billion do not have access to electricity.

How can developing countries benefit from existing technologies in the long-term and what support mechanisms can be employed?
The conference focused on the decentralised energy supply in developing countries, featuring short presentations and discussions on various topics, as well as an exhibition.

Conference: Fachtagung - Im Abseits der Netze

Bonn, 10 - 12 January 2011

The target audience consisted of development cooperation organisations from the German speaking world, research institutions, networks and consultants.

The conference was held in German and jointly organised by the Poverty-Oriented Basic Energy Services (HERA) programme of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Technische Zusammenarbeit (GTZ) GmbH, the German Development Service (DED) and InWEnt – Capacity Building International, Germany.
