Abstract
Household consumption decisions impact the climate and the environment in numerous ways. Impacts arise from daily habits, such as what to eat and how to commute, as well as from less frequent choices, such as how to heat our homes and whether to purchase a car. The potential of policy measures to reduce the environmental impacts of household consumption is well documented but has proven difficult to realise. Understanding and overcoming the barriers to individual behaviour change is a policy priority given the urgent need to accelerate action to limit climate change and to improve environmental quality.
