Overview

The solar bottle bulb can illuminate your home, but only during the day. Developed in Brazil to address under-illuminated slums, this simple design idea has been adopted by MIT students and expanded to other developing areas where many low-income homes lack access to either daylight or electricity[1].

Further Information

GIZ Bangladesh did a small trial of 250 bottle-bulbs in a slum area in Dhaka with the local NGO CHANGE. Response is very good. In fact people complain about "too much light" rather than not enough. Some people perceive its warmer now in their homes, others mention less mosquitos.
