Alternative Methodology
Description This hydraulic power plant type uses a vertical water vortex from a larger creek or small river to generate electricity in a very simple way with only a little impact to the environment. It can be implemented about anywhere, and works also economically with low gradient in the stream. A positive side effect is the addition of oxygen to the water. The water flow is not interrupted, the turbine type allows fish and other water life to pass unharmed in both directions up- and downstream. Due to its simplicity, it can be built in many places from local sources. The efficiency is still acceptable compared to high performance turbines. It can handle a wide range of water flow variations easily, which is another advantage compared to the conventional technologies. This technology is new, but being already in operation in several power plants. It has proven its functionality and its economy.
