Title
Accelerating clean energy through Industry 4.0
Publisher
UNIDO

Published in
September 2017
Abstract
Internet of Things, Big Data, robotics, blockchain technology, etc. are referred to as Industry 4.0. This report by UNIDO focuses on two development pathways towards more sustainable energy: retrofitting of existing systems to improve energy efficiency in developed countries; and leapfrogging of developing countries by jumping from older technologies to modern ones, such as smart factories and decentralized micro-grids. The report also provides recommendations for future policies to tackle the challenges Industry 4.0 might pose to sustainable development.
