Petrobras’ refining division lost US$9.0 billion in the first nine months of 2012, and US$5.7 billion in 2011. In May 2011, government announced that it was launching an investigation into Petrobras’ fuel distribution and retail division for alleged abuse of its dominant market position in Brasilia. Government posts weekly surveys of retail prices of gasoline, diesel, and LPG and marketing margins on the internet. In May 2004, the survey coverage was expanded to a total of 555 locations.
