Position Summary

Project Drawdown is hiring a new, part-time (50%, or 20 hours/week) Engagement Coordinator — a professional with experience in community engagement, partnership-building, resource development, and logistics who will join the organization’s growing Drawdown Stories team.

We are looking for an individual who can work independently and as part of a team to plan, manage, coordinate, execute and evaluate a wide array of activities aimed at supporting our storytelling work and its production, platforms and partnerships, supporting the Drawdown Stories team overall but with a particular focus on grassroots, local, and community-based outreach.

Drawdown Stories exists to provide an entryway for a diverse range of audiences by providing tangible examples of how climate solutions are being implemented today. Our work showcases the various people in climate careers that help make drawdown possible.

The guiding principle of Drawdown Stories is “Climate Solutions in Color.”

Through Climate Solutions in Color, we work to “pass the mic” to the climate heroes who often go unheard. We shine a light on these individuals to help those who’ve been overlooked in climate conversations discover their own real-world superpowers. We recognize that, often, the communities most immediately and severely affected by climate change are often excluded from the dialogue about solutions. This includes Black people, Indigenous peoples, and people of color across America, who are far more likely to live in areas with polluted air and water, less greenspace, and more vulnerability to the impacts of climate change, including extreme heat, droughts, wildfire and more. Climate Solutions in Color calls for our storytelling to prioritize diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice, surfacing underrepresented voices and welcoming traditionally marginalized communities to make the most of climate solutions.

The Engagement Coordinator will help us advance Project Drawdown’s storytelling initiatives.

As a small organization with a big mission, we’re seeking someone who can manage simultaneous projects and meet multiple deadlines, while maintaining a high level of initiative, creativity, collaboration, and excellence.

The Engagement Coordinator will report to the Director of Storytelling & Engagement at Project Drawdown and collaborate with other members of the organization including the marketing and communications team, program staff, and others. This position will also work with freelancers and consultants, as needed, and with other organizations and content experts around the world to build collaborations, cultivate new opportunities, and enhance efficient use of resources toward common climate solutions goals.

The Engagement Coordinator focuses on grassroots, local, and community-based outreach with the goal of expanding the impact of our work – primarily through deep relationship-building, partnerships (namely with connections on-the-ground and other justice-centered groups), proactive and strategic community workshops, community listening, and resource development. The Engagement Coordinator will support the development of the Drawdown Stories network, and foster relationships with the community members we reach (particularly around Drawdown’s Neighborhood, the International Stories Initiative. and other storytelling initiatives), cueing up organizations and interviewees working on climate solutions for the Storytelling Coordinator, who will coordinate production logistics. Much of the Engagement Coordinator’s work will involve connecting with community- and chapter-based groups, education organizations, local media, environmental justice groups, and others who may deepen our impact within communities. The Engagement Coordinator will help track impact metrics (qualitative and quantitative).

Project Drawdown welcomes people of all backgrounds, identities, and beliefs to join us in helping the world reach Drawdown quickly, safely, and equitably. We are a 100% remote organization based in the U.S. Candidates currently authorized to work in the United States (U.S. Citizens, green card holders, and work visa holders), who reside anywhere within the U.S. may apply.
