Description
In recent years, more and more states have adopted feminist foreign policy approaches. The first country to adopt it was Sweden in 2014, followed by many others such as Canada in 2017 and Germany in 2021. The definitions of what feminist foreign policy entails are broad and varied. The same applies to feminist energy policy, a term used less frequently but that has gained increasing attention in recent years.

The feminist foreign policy concept, pioneered by Sweden, places women at its core and is focused on the 4 Rs: Rights, representation, resources, and reality. Broader approaches, such as the feminist energy policy approach by Bell et al., apply feminist ideals to the political, economic, socio-economic, and technological dimensions, fostering more collaborative, decentralized, participatory, and democratic solutions.

It seems, however, that the principles of feminist foreign policy are readily transferable to the energy sector and vice versa.

This session aims to explore the dimensions and different approaches of feminist foreign and energy policy and how the two policy fields influence each other. Is there an approach that could be applied globally? What are the benefits, and how can we contribute to making this a reality?
