Description
Over the past two decades, IKEM Academy has brought together more than 450 participants from 60+ countries to examine how developments in social innovation, low-carbon policy, climate finance, and sector coupling can accelerate the transition to a carbon-neutral energy system.

As we approach the 20th anniversary of IKEM Academy, climate action is more urgent than ever. But the most effective approach is far from straightforward. After all, climate and energy aren’t isolated issues; they’re embedded within a broader political, legal, economic, and social context.

Current news headlines highlight this complexity. Amid the global fallout from crises like the COVID-19 pandemic and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, discussions of renewable energy production are raising questions related to international agreements, national policy, human rights, and economic growth.

This year’s IKEM Academy, titled ‘Earth 2050: transformative strategies for a climate-positive planet’, investigates how bold action and out-of-the-box thinking can empower communities, foster inclusive decision-making, build resilience – and pave the way towards climate neutrality by 2050.

The five-day Academy features interactive workshops, presentations, a site visit, and panel discussions led by renowned energy and climate experts. Highly qualified researchers, professionals, and students from around the world will have an opportunity to discuss topics such as:

How can we navigate the process of system transformation while balancing diverse needs and interests? In an era of deepening global conflict, how can we build consensus for climate action? How can adaptive measures respond effectively to local needs – and is it possible to scale up these solutions?

What role can new digital technologies and artistic initiatives play in promoting collaborative responses?
