Description
IGES will host the 16th International Forum for Sustainable Asia and the Pacific (ISAP2024). This year, the Plenary Sessions will be held on Tuesday, 23 July at Pacifico Yokohama as a hybrid event, with participation in-person and online. In addition, the Thematic Tracks will be held online from July to November.

ISAP is a forum where experts, international organisations, government, business and NGO representatives gather to engage in diverse discussions on sustainable development from an Asia-Pacific perspective. The overarching theme of ISAP2024 is "Taking an Integrated Approach to Overcome the Triple Planetary Crisis." The forum will delve into strategies that address the three current global crises: climate change, biodiversity loss, and environmental pollution. Discussions will also explore ways to accelerate the transition towards a sustainable society.

Recent ambitious efforts have mainly focused on achieving separate targets in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Paris Agreement and the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, but progress has been too slow and fragmented. In the meantime, a growing body of evidence has shown that one key way to addressing the triple planetary crisis is to identify actions for an integrated approach that maximises synergies and minimises trade-offs between the various global targets. ISAP2024 will showcase various examples of an integrated approach including actions taken at the local level, efforts by the business community, and youth initiatives. This year’s ISAP will also consider how integration can influence a wider range of decisions in the Asia-Pacific and pave the way for transformative change globally.
