Last Update:

The „Agence de stabilisation et de régulation des prix des produits pétroliers“ (ASRP) is in charge of regulating fuel prices in the Central African Republic.

The CAR is the only CEMAC-Member that produces no oil. As a result, prices are much higher than in the neighboring countries, leading to smuggling and black markets in border areas. Therefore, in 2008, ASRP had installed an office in Cameroon (→App. A3). According to App. A3, 40% of the fuels imported from Cameroon into CAR have a fraudulent origin.

Fuel prices went up in CAR in 2010, as the World Bank and the IMF, who support projects in the CAR, urged the government to reduce and finally abort any subsidies on fuels (→ App. A5).

According to →App. A2, the downstream petroleum sector was liberalized in 2008. The market was opened up to more actors in order to stimulate the market.

No website of ASRP could be found in the internet.
