Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is a public- benefit company in the field of international cooperation for sustainable development. On behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) and with a financial contribution of the European Commission, GIZ is implementing the project “Technical Support for the Implementation of the National Hydrogen Strategy of Greece” (H2Greece).

The overall objective of this project is to improve the framework conditions for the production, transport and use of green hydrogen in Greece in order to facilitate the achievement of the national energy and climate targets for 2030 and the long-term targets according to the Paris Agreement to meet the 1.5 degree limit. The project will provide support for the improvement of the strategic and legislative framework for green hydrogen projects in Greece, for the improvement of the framework for the financing of green hydrogen projects in Greece as well as for the enhancement of the capacities and knowledge basis on green hydrogen.

GIZ is currently looking for a Hydrogen Policy Expert who will support the implementation of the project activities. We offer a contract of limited duration under Greek employment regulations until July 2024 with the possibility for extension. The contract is foreseen to begin in January 2023.

The Hydrogen Policy Expert will be responsible for:

  • providing technical support in the field of hydrogen policy to the project partners in accordance with the work plan of the project and in concertation with the project manager
  • establishing and managing cooperation relationships with project partners and important stakeholders in the Greek energy sector
  • monitoring and evaluating the development of hydrogen in Greece and developing recommendations for the development of an appropriate policy, legislative and regulatory framework
  • assuring the collection, management and dissemination of relevant information and knowledge on hydrogen within the project team and towards project partners

Qualifications

  • Post-graduate degree or doctorate in engineering, economics or law, with a focus on the gas sector

Professional experience

  • At least 5 years’ professional experience in the field of gas markets, gas regulation and hydrogen technologies in a comparable position
  • a proven track record in a position with responsibilities in the provision of (policy) advisory services in the field of natural gas and hydrogen
  • specific professional experiences on the Greek gas market, gas infrastructure, legislation and regulation on natural gas in Greece as well as hydrogen technologies, applications, and policies
  • professional experiences in the cooperation with public and private stakeholders in the Greek gas sector
  • very good knowledge of relevant legislation and regulation on gas and hydrogen at EU level and in Greece

Other knowledge, additional competences

  • computer literacy and ability to work with MS Office applications
  • high level of analytical and organizational competence
  • ability to work in teams as well as independently
  • good communication and networking skills
  • fluent written and oral knowledge of Greek and English
