Indo-German Energy Programme Access to Energy in Rural Areas (IGEN-ACCESS)
|
Project description
|
Water pumps play a crucial role in the irrigation market. The widely used electric pumps
however suffer from low power availability and low voltage. Diesel powered water pumps
are therefore widely deployed to compensate for the shortcomings of electric pumps, but are
expensive to run, and polluting. Solar Water Pumps (SWP) can become a viable solution if
the challenges of high purchase cost, financing and economic viability can be addressed.
Because the economic efficiency of a SWP is directly related to its utilization rate, adopting
an inclusive-ecosystem based approach can be a promising solution to address the
economic viability of SWPs.
