Empowering Southern Africa (ESA) project is a USAID-financed project designed to support expansion of electricity access as well as to support power supply and transmission growth in the 11 countries of the Southern Africa region: Angola, Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe. NRECA International is part of a multi-member consortium that has been contracted to implement the ESA project. The Off-Grid Electrification Specialist (Specialist) will be the primary NRECA International representative on the ESA team and will be responsible for implementation of day-to-day activities in the primary project offices in Pretoria, South Africa.
About the role Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Identifies off-grid electrification expansion opportunities in ESA target countries in collaboration with other ESA implementing partners. Leads efforts to achieve transaction closure in support of ESA’s off-grid targets, including 1.5 million connections; 35,000 PUE units; 1,000 mini-grids; and associated investment and GHG reduction targets. Identifies, evaluates and seeks solutions to improve enabling environment and financing conditions to support investments in mini-grid expansion in selected countries. Coordinates with ESA counterparts in each respective country to identify key off-grid electrification expansion opportunities and to design programs to support investments responsive to these opportunities. Coordinates with other NRECA personnel who will contribute to ESA activities in grid electrification expansion and who may provide direct support to the Off-Grid Electrification Specialist to support ESA objectives and activities. Coordinates with ESA colleagues to support productive uses of energy initiatives on the ESA program.
Identifies new initiatives within the ESA project umbrella and other, non-ESA activities to expand NRECA services in Sub-Saharan Africa.This page belongs to the Job Offers database.
