EnDev Kenya was launched in 2006 and is composed of two core components i.e. cooking energy, promoting access to modern and improved cooking solutions (ICS) as well as off-grid electrification, promoting access to stand-alone solar systems. EnDev Kenya interventions targets households, social institutions, and small businesses particularly in rural and peri-urban areas. EnDev Kenya is implemented by GIZ, SNV, Practical Action, Energy for Impact and CLASP covering at least 20 counties in Lake Victoria, Western, Central, Lower Eastern, Coast and Northern regions in Kenya.
Kenya is the most mature market for biodigester in East Africa. Vivid companies, government support and technical institutes are supporting the deployment of biodigester technologies and services adapted to local market conditions. However, biodigester companies are in constant need for capacity building and training of their teams to build or install biodigesters for their clients. GIZ, through the EnDev partnership will implement the African Biodigester Component (ABC) in Kenya from 2022 to 2025 in consortium with SNV. The objective of the project is to achieve a sustainable, stable and growing market for biodigesters that significantly contributes to achieving national energy access and climate targets, by following a market-based approach to triggering demand, promoting the supply of high-quality technology and services and improving the enabling environment. The project will support the construction or installation of 20,000 small-scale and 250 medium-scale biodigesters.
