Abstract
Fuel stacking is a ubiquitous practice that consists of the parallel use of multiple stoves and fuels to fulfil a household’s cooking needs. Stacking can pose a challenge to fuel and stove providers whose business models require high levels of technology usage, whether through fuel sales or carbon credit. When stacking occurs with polluting fuels, it can undermine the multifaceted benefits of clean cooking transitions.

CCA supported the development of a standardized toolkit to understand why households stack, with a view to supporting context-specific interventions to reduce stacking.

This presentation contains a comparative analysis of the stacking toolkit applied through more than 3,000 surveys across seven clean cooking companies in four African countries.
