Abstract
This comprehensive report highlights the critical need to address energy access gaps in Ethiopia’s displacement settings, which host over 4.3 million internally displaced people and 1 million refugees.
Key Insights from the Report:
- Over 90% of refugee households in Ethiopia still rely on firewood for cooking, causing health risks, environmental degradation, and exposure to violence during fuel collection.
- Electricity access remains scarce in displacement settings, with many relying on expensive and unreliable lighting solutions.
- Promising initiatives, such as solar mini-grids, are beginning to make an impact, like the 254 kWp solar mini-grid in Sheder camp, which powers 17,000 refugee households and businesses.
