Knowledge fuels change - Support energypedia!
For over 10 years, energypedia has been connecting energy experts around the world — helping them share knowledge, learn from each other, and accelerate the global energy transition.
Today, we ask for your support to keep this platform free and accessible to all.
Even a small contribution makes a big difference! If just 10–20% of our 60,000+ monthly visitors donated the equivalent of a cup of coffee — €5 — Energypedia would be fully funded for a whole year.
Is the knowledge you’ve gained through Energypedia this year worth €5 or more?
Your donation keeps the platform running, helps us create new knowledge products, and contributes directly to achieving SDG 7.
Thank you for your support, your donation, big or small, truly matters!
Publication - Building Grids Faster: The backbone of the energy transition

Clean electrification is the backbone of global decarbonisation, meaning power grids, which link the generation and use of electricity, will play a central role. Under net-zero scenarios, the total length of grids must grow by over 50% by 2050 – a $22.5 trillion investment. While the development of power grids should aim to optimise the electricity system, even full deployment of all optimisation routes will not eliminate the need to build new grids.
Therefore, to address the grid build challenge, ensuring the world does not lose out on large volumes of cheap renewables for clean electricity, policymakers and industry must take action across four critical areas:
- Implement a strategic vision for grids and generation coordinated across key stakeholders and supported by clear data.
- Address slow permitting and approvals, and grow societal acceptance.
- Address skill, component and material gaps.
- Reform financing structures and increase access to finance.
