Abstract
Women direct sales force models have often been assumed to be a panacea to simultaneously improve women’s access to health and create empowering income for the sales agents. However, little research has been done to date to prove or disprove this assumption.

This report – supported by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation – relies on case studies on best-in-class models distributing health-related products, to provide a better understanding of

  • When women direct sales forces can be best-placed to reach low-income (women) consumers and why
  • How much income women sales agents can truly hope to make from these models, and
  • What practical requirements and best practices can help make these models successful.
