Job description
Summary

The United Nations Foundation’s Clean Cooking Alliance (CCA) is accepting proposals from firms or consortium interested in undertaking critical research on identifying and understanding outcome sellers needed capabilities to grow the range, quality, and availability of a broad range of impact outcomes related to the use of clean cooking technologies and fuels. The emphasis of this work should be on carbon project development, however additional outcomes to examine include outcomes related to (but not limited to): health, climate, environment, gender, and livelihoods. The research will be used to drive the development of critical tools and resources to support outcome sellers. The winning firm or consortium will also be responsible for co-facilitating a one-day workshop to validate key findings. This work will complement the research already being undertaken to segment outcome buyers and map the outcome buyer journey.

Objective

The overall objective of this assignment is to:

Establish a strategy to up-skill outcome sellers through programmable support activities, this strategy shall be established through:

  1. Researching the archetypes of clean cooking outcome sellers and partners, their motivations, the priority outcomes they are interested in and able to generate, and their pain points in the process of selling clean cooking outcomes to a variety of outcome buyers.
  2. Researching the landscape of resources already available to outcome sellers, including but not limited carbon, and identify any gaps in tools and resources that require adaptation to adequately support outcome sellers in the clean cooking space.

Scope of Work and Deliverables

  • Work in partnership with CCA to agree on the final list of learning questions to drive the research agenda. It’s critical the research align with the Outcome Buyer research currently under way. The current proposed areas of research related to outcome sellers include:
    • Generating archetypes of outcome sellers, noting their relative capacity levels to engage in the outcomes marketplace. This should include types of outcomes they are able to generate, scale of outcomes associated with each archetype, current barriers to engaging with outcome buyers, and their business model and technology preferences.
    • Analyzing the decision-journey of the identified groups of outcome sellers ( identifying pain-points, maximizing sale price and stakeholders involved in the sales process). Including conducting an analysis of where, how, and to whom, current outcome sellers’ market and sell various types of outcomes and decisions on sales strategy (retail sales as well as wholesale, B2B, B2C, and other types of sales arrangements).
    • Facilitating suggestions on how outcome sellers can create confidence and credibility among various categorized outcome buyers in the benefits being generated by clean cooking companies.
    • Mapping of the architecture of support ecosystem around sellers, including capacity at global and regional levels (3 countries shall be specified). With an understanding of what are the barriers to the needed support for sellers and what would remove these barriers.
  • Conduct research and gap analysis based on agreed approach.
  • Co-host workshop for clean cooking companies to validate findings.
  • Gather key findings into a well-structured report and accompanying PowerPoint presentation.
  • Deliverables:
    • Landscape of outcome sellers and their representative decision journeys.
    • Ecosystem mapping of support available to outcome sellers at a global and national level.
    • A strategy of critical intervention areas for capacity development based on outcome seller archetypes and a gap analysis with the resources available.
    • Well-written report on research findings, including a concise executive summary with key findings.
    • Accompanying PowerPoint to be delivered as a workshop for inputs from key stakeholders.

Project Period of Performance

This assignment will be performed between March 2023 – May 2023. All final deliverables must be submitted by May31st, 2023.
