TRINE

TRINE closes the financing gap between capital in developed countries and solar entrepreneurs and people in countries facing energy poverty, such as South Africa. Our crowdinvesting platform enables people to invest in specific solar projects of our partners in emerging countries. Local solar developers or NGOs provide the solar technology, whereas TRINE administers the necessary capital as soon as the solar project is fully financed on our platform. When the facility becomes operational, local villagers pay for electricity in small instalments, either via a power purchase agreement, a lease/loan payment or a pay-as-you-go on their mobile phone. Because solar electricity is cheaper and cleaner than health-hazardous fuel alternatives such as kerosene or diesel, we help people overcome their energy poverty. At the same time, TRINE business model enables for repayment of the capital lent by crowdinvestors with an interest rate, incentivizing them to participate in future projects. Therefore, the local population pays less, our crowdinvestors and TRINE see capital returns and local solar entrepreneurs can expand their businesses. This is what we call a triple win.
