Overview

The SE4JOBS Project was launched in 2014 as a collaborative effort of six GIZ projects: the regional RE-ACTIVATE Project and five concerned sector projects dealing with different aspects of sustainable energy and socio-economic development. It also involves distinguished external experts, especially from adelphi and the FFU, as well as key GIZ partners in the concerned countries. RE-ACTIVATE has coordinated SE4JOBS since its launch.

SE4JOBS aims to gather available worldwide experience on how to strengthen the link between socio-economic development and sustainable energy technologies, especially in developing and emerging countries, with a view to facilitating the application of good practices in other partner countries of German international cooperation. The goal is to provide a set of specific, application-oriented instruments and recommendations helping decision makers and practitioners to develop better policy approaches and institutional settings for the promotion of local employment and income creation through RE/EE.

In the scope of SE4JOBS the following products have been or are currently being developed:

  • Six SE4JOBS Case Studies providing in-depth intelligence on successful and good-practice job and value creation through RE/EE in key developing/emerging countries.
  • An SE4JOBS Toolbox based on these good-practice analysis, covering the entire policy cycle and providing practice-oriented guidance for partner countries and international agencies on how to boost jobs and value through RE/EE.
  • An SE4JOBS Strategy Paper resuming the main worldwide success factors and lessons learnt, and providing application-oriented conclusions and recommendations for policy makers and practitioners, globally and with regard to MENA in particular.

The full texts of these studies as well as an online version of the toolbox can be found in the publications section:

SE4JOBS has been designed in a way so as to give key stakeholders from the very beginning and at every step the possibility to participate in the process and contribute to its success. The aim has been to allow for an interactive exchange with them, gather available experience in this field, help disseminate and further improve the results of the project and, by doing so, prepare the ground and pave the way for their later application and replication. To this end, targeted trainings have been or are being organized for actual or potential partners and users in order to familiarize them with the use the products and the methodologies behind them. The following national and international outreach activities and expert meetings have been organized to date in the scope of the project:
