Socio-economic Benefits related to MHP Watershed Action Planning in Ethiopia
Overview
The mitigation and intervention techniques implemented in the Watershed Action Plan not only benefit the sustainable use of the Micro Hydro Power (MHP), also the ecological condition of the catchment area will improve as a whole. Due to the implemented measures, soil condition will sustainably be improved and thus economic benefit of the farmers will increase in the long run. It should be noted that also more complex interrelations of benefits exist, as shown in the example.
ExampleThe protection of springs is crucial in order to provide a sustainable use of the MHP. Fencing of spring areas will furthermore improve water quality, since pollutants will be kept from the springs. Thus, the health situation of the people living in the catchment area might improve. |
